Those were the days. Men were made of iron and boats were made of wood. The discovery of North Ameri
In the late 1490 era a small boat left from England and found North America by chance. John Cabot led 18 sailors on this boat. No cabins. All slept on deck and managed to survive brutal conditions. They found America by chance because Longitude was not known in those days only latitude which was measured by the suns height over the earths level ocean. So North and South could be roughly known with astronomy. East and West. Not yet. That came 100 years later. So any land discovery was luck and a repeat visit even luckier. I went to find the Cabot boat " Matthew" to start my quest to find where it all started and how I could teach direction, measurement and elevation. Plus find where it all it all began for us once settlements developed in America. The land that I/we owe my/our living to owe these brave men who taught us how to survey and earn a great living here. Masts, ropes, men and wind. Such a tiny vessel that that changed the world.
Next stop Bonavista in Canada. Where John Cabots boat docked in 1497.
